decision based on ideology, not national interests. Read the history for past 4 decades, you see for yourself.
You comments imply that China gov do things rationally and naturally will follow US. That's something I am not so confident. And even if China does do that, it does not dare to admit it frankly and still keep on giving ethical preaching on international issues.

Policy objective does not necessarily turn into realized objective. Control of oil fields is the long-term policy objective for US, no matter whether it is Demo or Rep in control of the white house. Until 1970s, US firmly controlled mid-east oil rich nations (Iran was one of them) . The Iranian revolution marks the end and US is now subject to the mercy of the leaders of mid-east nations.
In 1974, 1979, the high prices put all developed nations into recessions, according to your "incentive stories", these CEOs must be happy to the heaven, because their profits surged and they won big bonus....
There are conflicts of interests for the Bush administration, but the current high oil prices are not their intended results/objectives. A recession economy is not something that oil CEOs want.
Please show some gentlemanhood in your argument and control your emotion. Merci.
