Although I wouldn’t say this is an eye-opening experience, I am impressed. I might have spent too much time in tactical details, but that was my intention because I was afraid that people are going to say: “good ideas, but how to implement?”
Coming up with “what to do” is relatively easy. The real challenge appears when it comes down to the question of “how”. I have to say that your list of actions is systematic and comprehensive. But I was hoping for more. Please understand that I am not discrediting your work in any way!!!
I truly understand that it is almost impossible to list detailed techniques on paper, especially when it is about flexibility on the job. Maybe that is what was called “只可意会,不可言传”. So please do not try to explain what actions you did take for those question mark items if it is too complicated to do.
Honestly, I have less than 2 year experience in consulting. But those 1.5 years have given me both the breadth and the depth of knowledge in many things. I felt I have never learned so much in such a short period of time. But I also have found that there is something that can never be learned in an advisory role-that is the experience of sticking to the plan/ details and following through; that is the experience of developing organization and motivating people.
I had about 6 year line management experience before my MBA. My team was once 148 people strong. That was a different challenge from consulting and I enjoyed and missed that. That’s probably the main reason why I wanted to go back to industry.
This has been a good experience so far if we put aside some non-constructive feedbacks. As I read other messages on the board, I am truly impressed with the caliber and can-do attitude. Hope we cross paths on some other topic!
