Winding Up..
Dow pushes quietly higher, winds up within clear triangle.
From prior commentary, "...As we mentioned before, we could see more near-term strength ahead, but continued weakness is likely beneath the 12,400 level..."
The Dow opened the day with a nice move higher this morning, which essentially extended yesterday's afternoon's rally, as seen in the 15 Minute Chart. The index eventually pulled back during the day, but rallied into the Close. The index is now winding up within a clear four-day triangle pattern, which we will watch closely next week.
The 15 and 60 Minute Charts show the Dow remains near the overall lows of the current four-week downtrend. However, the Dow has four or five days has sparked the formation of a clear triangle pattern that could offer a breakout move of about 290 points next week. Watch 12,325 and 12,150
for a confirmed breakout from this pattern.
Since this pattern has formed at lows, a downside break is the most likely scenario, especially since the index remains beneath the clear four-week upper trend line. However, a breakout in either direction should yield a solid move.
Short Term Dow
The Dow ended the day right at the clear 12,300 resistance level, seen in the 5 Minute Chart. Watch this level for early direction Monday morning.
Medium Term Dow
In the medium term, we are still out of the market and will watch 12,150 down, and 12,325 up; using 25 point stops.
Summary
The Dow closed the day with a nice move higher, ending the day with a gain of 166 points. The index is now winding up within a clear triangle pattern, which could offer a solid breakout move early next week.
