if you are Canadian citizen, you can apply "non-tax resident" status while living abroad, i.e, you only pay tax to the country you live, not sure if you can do the same as permanent resident.

you can still keep your PR status in Canada as long as you stay 2 years in Canada during the past 5 years, though you might be questioned everytime passing through the custom, besides it only takes 3 years to apply for citizenship comparing to 5 years in US.
