consists of two tiers.

1. top research school market-- always oversupplied, with ratio close to 4 to 1. Average starting pay will be around 150k, but very tough to enter.

several of my friends never failed in this tough market and switched to industry.

2. average teaching school: the average pay will be around 85k. Some high-living cost regions will pay more (esp., California), but no more than 100k.

totally misleading article, many Chinese will not speculate their careers on the accounting career now without understanding the hardship...

worse than average industry job since the pay rise in the academic world is very very slow...
