TOM收信后说抱歉,他误解了.还顺便表扬了一下中国人的作文水平.Conquered.

Mr. Tobias,

Thank you very much for your lengthy email which I went through with great interest. Below are the answers of your queries:

(a) The positions I advertised, and which have been filled now, were in Henan and Shandong provinces. Now let’s come to the term ‘Great China’. I don’t know what made you think that Great China only refers to Heilongjiang or Xi Zang etc. Even a non-native speaker of English can understand that it refers to China as a whole. I also don’t know why many “native speakers” (you seem to be one of them) will misunderstand my calling great to China. Anyone can understand that China is my country and I call it great. And not only me any Chinese will call it great. If you said “Great USA”, I would think you love your country. For your kind information, I have heard many “native speakers” from USA say “Great America” and even “Mighty America”. I don’t see any religious element in this. By the way, I believe USA is a religious country because its president is an extremely religious person who begins his day with the reading of Bible and other “holy writings”. Not only that, he thinks that God has assigned him a holy mission regarding the “holy land”. If you don’t know about your religious president, keep in touch with the newspapers from USA.

(b) May I ask why you are interested in my name in Pinyin? You are a candidate for a teaching position and at the moment I represent the employer. Is this a usual practice in USA to ask your employer’s representative to tell you his/her name? Before telling you my name in Pinyin, I would like you to tell me your name in Chinese characters!

(c) These positions were in government universities. The reason I didn’t put all the details on the internet was because most of the job sites have limited space for job posts.

(d) Teaching adults.

(e) The western style accommodation is private.

(f) From the first part of your email, I thought you were somewhat familiar with China and the way the “native English speakers” especially from America ask the Chinese employers questions, but now I have to change my opinion. If you are so oblivious about the meaning of “western style” accommodation, then let me tell you what it means. Western style accommodation doesn’t mean TV, internet, etc. It mainly refers to the toilet! For your kind information western toilet is very different from Chinese toilet. 90 percent of the “native English speakers” who asked me this question of “western style accommodation” were from USA, and all of them had the same meaning; is the toilet western style or Chinese style?
Your other assertion is also wrong that Chinese people live in western style accommodation. Only 20-30 percent of the population lives in modern accommodation. This again shows your lack of insight into China.

(g) At the end I regret I can’t offer you any position not only at this time (as the positions have been filled) but in the future too. You might ask the reason? There are several reasons:

1. We need teachers who are patient, polite, friendly, understanding, and who can teach oral English to our students. And as your email shows your focus is only on writing.
2. You are not even a good writing teacher because I can see several punctuation and syntax errors in your writing style.
3. You are sort of an extremist. I can see this from your reaction to the word “Great China”. A teacher should have a moderate and balanced approach.
4. You have quite a lot of arrogance towards China and Chinese. This can be seen from your arrogant offer of improving my writing.
5. Last but not the least, you also lack work etiquettes. If have signed my name as Veronica and you are still asking me my name in Pinyin. What does this suggest? You also admit in parentheses that you are impolite!

However, I wish you best of luck with your job hunt.

Regards,
Veronica
