Our client is a large US company that manufactures and wholesales consumer products. Currently the company imports $300 million per year from China.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
The Director, China Operations will be accountable for all business related to the Guangzhou Purchasing/Sourcing Office, ensuring that sourcing objectives for cost, quality and delivery are met and exceeded.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
Accountable for sourcing products that meet the cost, quality and delivery objectives of the company for worldwide distribution. Develop dynamic multi-level relationships with key suppliers to ensure objectives are met.
Develop and deploy a strategic plan that ensures the Company’s interests are maximized, including optimum sourcing, analyses of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
· Perfect a system that ensures sourced products meet and exceed internal and external quality customer requirements and delivery requirements.
Monitor and advise on key economic indicators such as currency fluctuation, product pricing, utility costs, health care, and other market trends.
Negotiate favorable terms with sources and develop benchmark pricing. Consolidate purchasing where economies of scale and other improvements can be made.
Identify opportunities to expand operations and capitalize on growth plans. Successfully implement approved plans to expand operations as the company determines is necessary.
· Monitor social compliance requirements and conduct audits to ensure that suppliers meet expectations.
Perform those administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the organization, including provision for the ｓｅｌｅｃｔion and development of employees, salary and budget administration, employee safety, employee counseling and motivation, disciplinary action, organization of goals and objectives, and planning, organizing, integrating and measuring the work performed within the department.
Perform such individual assignments as the Vice President, Manufacturing/Sourcing/Logistics may direct； establish and maintain effective work relationships within the organization, the Group, the Company, and the community； and maintain the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
Require regular attendance to perform essential elements as contained herein between the assigned start and end times for work.
Perform such individual assignments as management may direct.

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
INTERNAL: Interface with a number of logistics, quality, product development, engineering and sourcing personnel.
EXTERNAL: Interface with suppliers at multiple levels of their organization. Interface with various community and government personnel.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
· 10-15 years’ progressively responsible sourcing and management experience with a Western country, preferably in China.
· A good knowledge of international branding.
· A proven and successful sourcing and management track record.
· Experience in sourcing new products in China.
· An excellent understanding of Chinese business methods and culture.
· Fluent English and Mandarin (read, write, speak) mandatory； Cantonese highly desirable, but not required.
· Strong negotiating skills and knowledge of contracts.
· Consumer goods manufacturing experience and knowledge of suppliers of plastics, textiles, etc.
· Ability to travel internationally for a 2 to 3 week period at least 3 to 4 times per year.
· A seasoned, communicative leader with executive demeanor.
· Strong organizational skills - Able to organize or schedule people to tasks； to develop realistic action plans while being sensitive to time constraints and resource availability. Good business acumen.
· Skills to start and persist with specific courses of action while exhibiting high motivation and a sense of urgency； willing to commit to long hours of work and make personal sacrifice in order to reach goals.
· Strong leadership development and coaching skills, able to grow and develop a team. Able to influence the actions and opinions of others in a desired direction； to exhibit judgment in leading others to worthwhile objectives.
· Skills to clearly present information through the spoken and written word； influence or persuade others through oral and written presentation in positive or negative circumstances； listen well.
