I am working in a Fortune 100 company.
Our department is looking for outsourcing to China and may have a foreign service position. The position may or may not be a expatriate one. But the pay should be very good regardless. I am one of the candidate with a good chance.
The upper management has not decided the scope of the position yet. I may eventually have limited input in defining such strategy. I have no knowledge on the the options yet. With that all said, I think there are three options.
Option 1: Establish a subsidiary division and be the head of the division.
Option 2: Work with existing contract orgnizations in China. Serve as a project liason/manager. The existing contract orgnizations are generally subsidary of U.S. contract orgnizations and charge at about 60% or more of U.S. counterpart.
Option 3: Identify start-up contract orgnizations that have no any or extremely limited experiences; train them know how; help them to establish standard operation procedures. Essentially, it is not much different from build a contract orgnization. There is no patent can be derived from the process. However, it does require extensive experiences, good connection with patrons such as our company, reputation, and know-how for such kind of contract orgnization to success. It is the most difficult approach for the person who take the position. If it is a success, it is like 为他人作嫁。The one benifit the most is the CEO of the start-up contract orgnization.
In short-term, option 3 is more likely. In the long-run, option 1 or mixture of 1 and 3 is possible.
Questions:
1. If it is option 3, should I still consider it?
2. For option 3, is there anyway to aviod 为他人作嫁? If so, it is actually the best option for me.
