RESPONSIBILITIES
The Managing Director, Greater China will be responsible for revenue of US$126 million and a staff organization of 750 spread over Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.

The primary mandate for the Managing Director, Greater China is to anchor the Company as a Tier-1 provider of professional and IT services by (i) transitioning the Company’s Greater China office from an equipment-led vendor into a services provider and (ii) exploiting business opportunities afforded by WTO as key sectors, such as financial services industry and transportation, are going through rapid changes. The Managing Director, Greater China will optimize the company business opportunities by prioritizing the market segments and by leveraging the strong domain knowledge the Company has in place in various LOBs.

This executive will need to institute changes in the GC organization, improving staff bandwidth where required, and do so with a sense of urgency. In addition, he/she will build up core competencies that will position the Company advantageously against competitive offerings in an increasingly cluttered market. The executive will lead by example, and will sell and secure turnkey services projects.

The executive will recruit, and manage, a highly skilled, disciplined, technically driven and mobile work force. He/she will help drive the Company’s efforts in lifting IT services and project delivery capabilities so that service revenue will become an increasing portion of the Company’s total business in Greater China.

The executive will be required to demonstrate experience in driving business transformation within a constructive, commercially sensitive fashion, having built upon core strengths that form a legacy basis for growth and development.

Specifically, this executive’s accountabilities will include:

To develop and implement the overall China marketing and sales plan to achieve sales and profit targets for China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
To identify appropriate sales opportunities, drive key customer relationships and lead commercial negotiations where applicable.
To keep abreast of current trends, economic conditions and growth opportunities as well as monitor and advise company management of competitive activities in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
To train and develop a highly skilled and motivated local team, improve their bandwidth, and to imbue the work force with a strong and spirited healthy culture in order to increase effectiveness and drive for desired performance.

PROFILE
The ideal candidate for this position should be fluent in Mandarin. She/he should have an intimate, longstanding, and first hand knowledge of the subtleties within the Chinese business environment. The executive must have a proven track record of success in the services business with strength in securing and managing services projects in China.

In addition to industry knowledge and functional competence, personality and leadership qualities are essential for this position. The individual should have either occupied a general management role or run a service organization involving comparable P/L and headcount. A college degree with an IT bias is preferred and an advanced degree in business management will be an advantage.

The individual must have the maturity and stature to be able to deal with senior government officials and technocrats from government bodies, such as MII which sets standards in China. He/she will have strong personal qualities to be able to quickly gain the respect of those he/she comes into contact with, including his/her subordinates, PRC counterparts, as well as colleagues within the Company.

Finally, in so far as the position will be vested with considerable authority and autonomy, the appointee must have integrity and an ethical standard which is beyond reproach.
