Treading the line between shiny and sterile is tricky for new restaurants. Gourmet 120’s décor is strong on taste with cream tablecloths and white walls, while a couple of big yellow vases and some paintings add warmth to the notover-large dining space. On our visit the restaurant was full of people enjoying delicious and sometimes refreshingly different Shanghainese dishes. The wait staff knew their menu and couldn’t have been pleasanter or more patient as they explicated its many delights. We began with mashed beans (yao zhu xuecai dou ban su, RMB 16), which came in a vivid green block and had an exhilarating salty, buttery taste. The spicy shrimps on sticks (xi zhi la zi cao xia) were big and juicy, the first dish on our table to be thoroughly devoured. The red-cooked pork (hongshao rou kao jidan, RMB 2 was tasty though a little tough. Three ate for a little over RMB 200, making this surprisingly inexpensive and very enjoyable Shanghainese dining experience.
夜游荷轩
原本选在进贤路的鲜墙坊为朋友饯行, 岂料昔日鲜墙坊的招牌以更替为今日的荷轩。 从门口的碎花玻璃屏风望去,整个店堂装饰得清新雅典,雪白的墙上有大幅装裱画,厚重的餐椅,椅背上雕刻着镂空的荷花,果然不负荷轩这雅名,料想菜式也不俗,便携友欣然落座。 时候尚早,店里的客人不算多,老板娘便亲自招呼了我们,推荐了几道荷轩的招牌菜“荷轩密制卤鸽“,“锡封辣汁草虾“,“魔芋鸭方“,另外她又向我们介绍了一道既可以当菜,又可以做主食的“富贵鱼娘面“,用什莫鱼可以随客挑选。菜一上来,果然道道都有特色,“密制卤鸽“肉质鲜嫩,“魔芋鸭方“是椒盐片皮鸭盖在软糯的芋乃上,“辣汁草虾“以竹签窜烤, 全桌销路最好,见大伙吃的满意,我又点了道“竹笼童子甲鱼“。 最后“富贵鱼娘面“上桌, 有蜜汁覆盖,色香味俱全,让人食欲大增。荷轩二楼还有6个包房,适合家庭聚会和朋友宴请。荷轩的风格和别致的菜式都会令人禁不住想起朵云轩的素雅来。
