Job Responsibility
The role will be responsible for the overall management of Inbound, Stow and Outbound operations for Sortable or Non-Sortable items in Fulfillment Centre (FC). Being responsible for: Operations & Area Managers, and have a dotted line to Process Management, Operations Engineering, Facilities Manager, and Safety & Loss Prevention.
The incumbent is accountable for the stewardship of the entire Fulfillment Centre and is charged with full authority to ensure a predictable and consistent operation.
The function comprises the management, control and direction of Inbound, Stow and Outbound distribution operations. The General Manager Operations will work to continuously improve the functionality and level of service that the China FCs provide to our customers resulting in exceeded productivity goals and the delivery to our customer promise.
Tasks/Responsibilities:
Manage and drive staffing plans, schedules, quality initiatives, process change initiatives, and other Change/ Six Sigma initiatives to enable Operations and ultimately the FC to attain company’s Business Plan
Manage a team of up to 200+ employees within a very fast-paced/time-critical and demanding environment
Set/clarify requirements and expectations for Operations Managers, Area Managers and Team Leader
Leverage off Operations, Area Managers, and Team Leaders to source and nurture ideas and roll them into the creation of improvement plans for the FC
Take proactive steps to ensure that best practices are shared across all departments and shifts
With the senior management team regularly review manager performance levels to continuously improve strategies
Work closely with support staff (HR, Finance, Safety & Loss Prevention Manager, IT Manager) to build and secure support and resources for projects and initiatives
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and procedures
Maintain a complete management overview and thorough understanding of inventory in a multi-product manual process environment
Implements change and/or develop new processes as required to provide ability to better ship multiple products to multiple locations
Continuously measure and evaluate the departmental goals and all work processes
Generate a positive employee relations environment which respects and retains good performers and values their contribution
Recommend, develop and implement policies and programs that guide the FC in monitoring and improving its competitive position and profitability of the operation
Manage and promote maintenance of the working environment including health and safety standards
Ensure security procedures are followed at all times
Achieve stock accuracy targets
Improve quality and eliminate errors
Manage and report metrics daily
Relationships
Reports to the CN fulfillment Director
Works closely with the other CN General Managers, Operations Managers, Area Managers and the wider company global operation
Supplier relationships - existing and as required new
Works closely with functional peers to implement Kaizen/continuous improvement ideas for a better customer experience
Basic Qualifications:
At least 6 years Operations team leadership experience (manufacturing, production or distribution environments)
At least 3 years in a General Manager or Senior Operations Manager role within fast paced logistics, production or manufacturing environments
Goal driven, target orientated, able to step back and look at the bigger picture (helicopter view), the person will also be able to manage ambiguity with their sleeves rolled up, and possess a preparedness to get involved
Demonstrate strong track record of team leadership within a large scale rapid and process driven environment
Demonstrate a strong track record of problem solving and very strong analytical skill capability as he/ she will is required to look at and find solutions for a variety of operations problems. Look at the difficulty – and fix it. Good timely decisions will need to be made on a regular basis. There is rarely time for a committee decision, the individual will have to be prepared to take on responsibility for his/her actions
Excellent communication skills (English and Chinese written and verbal)
High dependability – be there to manage Department
Must be flexible and able to manage a business that can operate 24/7 (including holidays) and commit the time required to get the job done.
Demonstrate ability to manage, motivate, and influence work behaviors
Track record of:
-managing systems and processes and able to effectively use systems and processes to measure, monitor, and manage or impact performance
-improving processes and building scalability
Preferred Qualifications:
Practiced working knowledge of Six Sigma and Kaizen tools (preferred Black Belt qualified) and Lean techniques
Candidates will be degree qualified in Operations, Engineering, Logistics or similar. An MBA would also be advantageous.
