Job Title:
Site Network Engineer
JOB SCOPE
• Management and administration of WAN network gear, LAN and some telecommunications services and products.
• Management and support of standard OS, desktop applications and services.
• Support of site end-users and their systems and servers etc via hands-on administration and problem escalations from Helpline
• Support China business and IT groups for any required IT Infrastructure proposals.
• As required, interaction with counterparts in RCTS, GNCS and GVS.
• Participation in regional and global infrastructure projects and regional-support tasks as required
• Ensure adherence to global systems, standards and processes.
• Ongoing critical reviews of infrastructure robustness/ suitability and strategic reviews of business and IS&T requirements; recommend, influence and implement improvements.
•Design and develop secure network in line with corporate directives and standards
JOB RESPONSIBILITY
• Perform hands-on as the local arm of the regional CTS team in deploying world-class support & services in Network & Telecommunications such as WAN and wired/wireless LAN related circuits, switches, routers, firewalls (Cisco, Netscreen, Juniper), DNS, DHCP, VPN, NMS (NetMRI) file servers and IP-Tel PABX, etc., which includes delivery of SLA’s.
• Install, support and manage the local servers and infrastructure solutions hosted by the IT department.
• Manage all aspects of Comm’s Room where Servers and Network equipment are located. This includes access, add/remove equipment, UPS, air-conditioning, fire testing etc.
• Backup Administrator, add/remove/restore users files and systems.
• Be the local point of contact person in Regional CTS group; participate and influence, where relevant, in any global and regional discussions.
• Provide the in-country IS&T group, which supports Application Projects, with any requested advice and support related to the CTS area, in relation to infrastructure & connectivity-issue resolution or improvement, that will allow Applications to achieve the business goals.
• Understand and work with the business to continually identify and plan for future network bandwidth, access and resiliency/ redundancy requirements.
• Responsible for evaluating & deploying appropriate technology to meet the business requirements.
• Provide formal and informal training for users and group members on network and internal services.
• Establish and document procedures for all areas of responsibility.
• Work with vendors on negotiating new services, products or support & maintenance.
• Work under the mentoring and development guidance of senior members of the RCTS team to further develop technical and business-context application knowledge and experience
•Design, deploy, manage and support APAC WANs, LANs, WLANs, Internet
Gateways, Firewalls & Remote Access infrastructures.
•Design, deploy. manage and support sites/regional Internet.
Education Qualification.
• Networking certifications. (CCNP is a must, other networking certificates are desirable)
• LAN/ Server Admin certifications a definite advantage (eg, Mac OSX Admin, Unix Admin etc)
• Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field
Skills and Experience
While reporting to the country IS&T Manager, the incumbent must be an independent self-starter, be confident and drive initiatives. Not only possess user-support, system-admin’, network and telecommunication knowledge and skills to be able to run tasks hands-on, must also be able to listen to business requests and offer/ recommend solutions to meet these needs, whilst ensuring compliance to corporate policies and procedures.
Essential
• Experience in Mac OSX, (client and Server), Unix, shell scripting, Server admin, face-to-face user-system and DTS-type support
• Experience in direct user support of common desktop applications and productivity tools
• Strong trouble-shooting and problem-analysis skills in end-user application, server administration, network and internet admin areas.
• Minimum of 5-6 years relevant hands-on work experience. With at least 2 years in the network engineering area.
• Experience installing and configuring routers, switches, VPN and firewalls.
• Experience in setting up DNS, DHCP and other network related services.
• Experience in of web/intranet/internet technologies.
• Experience installing network circuits and technologies such as ATM, MPLS, Ethernet (10/100/1000, EtherChannel, 802.1q), Internet, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, VoIP, NMS and various VPN solutions (IPSEC, IKE, SecurID, Cryptocard).
• Work in global/regional teams with cross-cultural, language, time zone experience, as well as virtual team scenarios.
• Project management, process management and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills are required.
• Strong “customer care” and personal-interaction skills are required.
• Vendor management and change management skills.
• Fluent in English
Desirable
• Experience in installing and managing PABX and telephony systems. Experience with IP telephony and switches highly desireable.
CORE COMPETENCIES
Solid end-user/ DTS/ server-room support skills, strong network knowledge and skills, knowledge of PABX/ Voice systems, teamwork, influencing, oral and written communication, commitment to task, problem solving, organization and planning, ability to facilitate change, managing and measuring work, sense of urgency and customer focus.
Conditions of Employment
• based in Beijing, China but occasional travel to other provinces in China and countries in Pacific Region may be required. This is a 24x7 on-call role with responsibility to not only support China operations, but also participate in support of the extended global Apple infrastructure operations.
