Position Specific Information
Postion scope:
Design, Develop, Release & Support by following Cummins ESW, related work instructions and procedures.
New product introduction design improvement and support.
Current product design improvement and support.
Approach analysis led design through provision of processes and tools to achieve cost effective and quick design as per customer requirements.
To be familiar with design technology tool box and apply them to provide capable design to customers. The tool box including design analysis tool box, development analysis tool box and PLM tool box. (Details see below skill matrix)
Position purpose :
To be a word-wide community of design engineer engaged on the creation and support of innovative products & existing products that provide real value to our customers using proven technologies, proven common processes & tools, within the framework of product line architecture, while meeting our business objectives.
Enhance Cummins analysis led design and global synergies, perform DVA, DBJ, structure and CFD analysis for components design and validation by following ESW/CES and & procedures.
Key responsibilities:
To plan and execute analysis lead design using standard methodology and to provide input to complete design iterations based on cross functional inputs, analysis and development inputs.
Operate within a standard, structured development process, either Technology Design For Six Sigma for technology development, Value Package Introduction (VPI) for major system development, or Value package Change (VPC) process for derivative, tailoring, and maintenance of systems.
Have the capability of following Cummins proven technologies, proven common processes & tools to validate the design.
Be responsible for all engine-vehicle system integration design, including engine front mounting system, accessory mounting and drive, frond end drive system and custom hardware to meet special custom needs.
Develop project plans, conduct design review and manage implementation with Purchasing and Manufacturing.
Conduct system requirements and design FMEA and if necessary, Hazard analysis to ensure product risks are understood and appropriately addressed in the system design.
To use configuration management tools and requirements management tools to support design and analysis work.
Work in technical organizations across the corporation in world wide technical center groups, plants and/or other areas across engine business unit.
Write engineering releases that adhere to product definition standards and guidelines.
Work with manufacturing (design for manufacturer) and suppliers to achieve producible, good quality designs at the lowest cost possible.
Participate team activities such as cross functional design reviews, FMEA’s, M-reviews, HAS Analysis, FMFA’s, RPS projects, Six Sigma, joint studies/capabilities and functional excellent projects. Provide status and updates to management.
Maintain regular project review meeting with customers as well as team project issue meeting
Ensure all team members obey local procedure such as HSE, ISO9001, etc
Qualification:
Education
Bachelor degree is required; Master degree is preferred, major in internal Combustion engine or automobile engineering, Mechanics
Working experience
At least 3 years relevant work experience (in JV or MNCs is preferred).
Experience in design and stress analysis, working knowledge
Proficiency in ProE required. Experience with ProMechanica and/or Ansys preferred but not required.
Cultural/Language
Good command of English in reading, writing, and oral English
Other requirement
Must be able to read and understand drawings and apply geometrical dimensioning and tolerance per ASME Y14.5M-1994 in discussions with DEP Quality, SQI, Materials and Suppliers.
Must be capable of carrying out bolted joint studies.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be flexible in taking on different responsibilities as the work changes.
Must be a team player and work effectively in cross functional groups/teams.
Must be self motivated and require minimal supervision.
Good coordination and communication skills.
Project management experience
Strong desire to learn while working, taking new challenges with a positive attitude.
