A, Purpose of Position
The R&D Chemist II develops chemical products and product application with
some regular supervision and guidance in the design and test of various
analytical equipment, subassemblies, and chemical formulations for use with
our analytical systems for water analysis-based on solid, practical
understanding of water market practices, processes and requirements.
B,Key Responsibilities
1,Demonstrates practical knowledge of a wide range of technical methods,
principles, and practices similar to a narrow area of a professional field,
and skill in applying this knowledge to such assignments as the design and
planning of difficult, but well-precedent projects. The employee generally
seeks assistance with unusual situations that do not have clear
precedents.
2,The employee plans and carries out the successive steps and handles
problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with
instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted practices in the
occupation. Completed work is usually evaluated for technical soundness,
appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. The methods
used in arriving at the end results are not usually reviewed in detail.
3,Guidelines are available, but are not completely applicable to the work or
have gaps in specificity. The employee uses judgment in interpreting and
adapting guidelines such as policies, regulations, precedents, and work
directions for application to specific cases or problems. The employee
analyzes results and recommends changes.
4,The work includes responsibilities involving different and unrelated
processes and methods. The work involves treating a variety of
conventional problems, questions, or situations in conformance with
established criteria. The work product or service affects the design or
operation of systems, programs, or equipment; the adequacy of such
activities as field investigations, testing operations, or research
conclusions.
5,Personal contacts are with individuals or groups from inside and outside
the employing establishment in a moderately unstructured setting. The
purpose is to obtain, clarify, or give facts or information regardless of the
nature of those facts, i.e., the facts or information may range from easily
understood to highly technical.
6,The employee plans and carries out the successive steps and handles
problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with
instructions from senior technical team members, department policies,
previous training, or accepted practices in the occupation.
7,Provides chemistry knowledge to the project or business area of focus.
The position includes demonstrating academic level knowledge for
adjacent scientific fields and methods.
8,Provides information on strategic planning and technology evaluation as
needed.
9,Shows beginning level experience and use of DBS tools.
10,The Chemist II will follow guidelines such as department policies,
hazardous materials regulations and procedures, experimental precedents,
and work directions for application to specific cases or problems. A
Chemist II will recommend changes, exceptions or adaptations to these
things as suitable to improve the safety, effectiveness and performance of
the department or company.
C,Desired Background and Skill Requirements
1,Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or degree in related field with minimum
of 3 years of directly relevant experience or a MS with 0 years of
experience.
2,Strong knowledge of ISO quality systems (specifically Design
Controls/Product Realization) and related requirements.
3,Demonstrated skill in the areas required to perform this job for a
technologist:
4,At minimum a solid practical ability for chemistry skills, analytical
laboratory techniques, practices, and procedures. Strong
understanding of chemical principles. Strong analytical skills.
5,At minimum solid practical market Technical Applications
Knowledge.
6,At minimum a beginning Cross-Technical Knowledge(Adjacent
Discipline).
7,At minimum solid practical Chemical and/or Electromechanical
Manufacturing understanding.
8,At minimum solid practical VOC and Product Definition ability.
9,At minimum beginning Industry Contacts and Participation in
Industry.
10,At minimum a solid practical capability in Presentation Skills and
Ability to Translate Technical Information to Lay People.
11,At minimum Low practical experience in Business Development.
12,At minimum Low practical experience in Commercialization.
13,At minimum a beginning level of DBS tools usage and Cross-
Functional capability.
14,At minimum has a beginning level of Project Management skills.
15,At minimum low practical Leadership of People and Change
Management skills.
