Hi,
sorry, about only be able to type english from my computer. I am moving back to beijing after 12 years in the usa. I grow up in Beijing, and came to United States in 96, my second year of high school. Finished high school, college, and graduate school in the states. In graduate school, I received M.S in Electrical Engineering and M.S in Financial Engineering from Columbia University.
For past two years, I had worked as the only in-house quantitative analyst at a hedge fund based in NYC. The firm is small with 17 employees, and had asset under management around 1 billion dollar at beginning of 08. Because, the financial market problem, the asset under management was down to around 300 million in Oct 08. I was laid off along with half of the firm at end of Oct 08. The fund is a well known hedge fund in the convertible bond market, one of the hardest hit asset class last year.
I started out as a summer intern there in 06, and was offered a full time position after the internship. My responsibility at my old firm were two parts. First, I am responsible for all quantitative related issue of the firm. From asset allocation, risk analysis, to sell side product evaluation, etc. Second part of my job responsibility which I spend most time on is long/short equity portfolio. Since, I was the only person in the firm working in this area. I am responsible for idea creation, data collection, modeling, back testing, forward evaluation, and managing the long/short portfolio.
wonder with this kind of back ground, can i be able to do anything? for the 12 years i was here, i never came back visit. so really knowing nothing about chinese financial market. I had to move back since after lossing my job, my h-1 is gone as well.
please give me any advise, and are there hedge fund in china?
