according to MIT, in 20-40% of costs of goods sold of biz op today in global economy are realted to logistics
walmart can compete successfully against others in its own category, among other reasons, one big factor was its first classs logistics system
today, if an enterprise cannot run a lean operation and thus reduce its own operating costs, it will have less flexibility to compete because at least two accounts inabilities: better customer service at cost efficiencies, more competitive prices at profit margins
this would require outsourcing evaluations and plan implementations: what cannot be cost efficiently produced in house, while outsourcing would not self inflict wounds by giving away market access
with all that, global managers not mentioned in this article will actually play a more significant role: say you have a sales force bring in orders, how can you be assured to make profit at all, and then how much profit margin can be sustained with the operations in house? any viable sources?
personally i would see many companies, especially the us based mid to small sized companies who are not experienced in export, would have to rely on such in house or external consultings to go through such analysis
for those of from china, with professional training and practices on both ends, with the clear understanding of 21st century business organization and market competitions...this is one big direction to head for our own future where we may lead others....
