HP Labs is the central research arm of Hewlett Packard Company and one of the world’s renowned research laboratories inventing technologies that change the market and create new market opportunities. The mission of HP Labs in China (the latest addition to HP Labs worldwide) is to combine intimate understanding of unique aspects of the Chinese context with the depth of HP’s existing as well as new technical capabilities to innovate superior solutions for China and the rest of the world.
The position of Program Manager/Liaison – China Research, is key for establishing and growing this lab. The position will be located in HP Labs at HP’s headquarters in Palo Alto. The position complements the senior leadership team in Beijing. The duties of this position include the following.
Partner to develop strategic research directions for informatization research for the 2-5 year timeframe for Core Grid Services and Digital Content Management.
Working with the team, identify and develop new research directions that leverage the context and provide new business value for HP.
Work with all three research centers and geographies in labs to maximize programmatic ties with the research activities in HPL China.
Help recruit the necessary staff including senior architects, more junior researchers and eventually a Director based in China.
Qualifications
strong track record in research and research management. (S)he should have a PhD or equivalent credentials, and demonstrated experience in creating a research program and managing a group of people to deliver against the program
strong ability to work effectively in a program management role with a team of peers with indirect reporting structure.
demonstrated ability to define and work in a cooperative research relationship with universities
ability to synthesize business requirements with technology capabilities in defining a research program
ability to work within a large multinational to transfer technology to the business groups
ability to understand and function in the Chinese research, government and business ecosystem.
